Software Engineer -Legislative Research Commission (Non-Merit)

The Commonwealth of Kentucky is seeking a Software Engineer for the Legislative Research Commission. This role involves developing and maintaining applications to support the agency's goals while collaborating with stakeholders and systems analysts.

Responsibilities

Work with stakeholders and systems analyst to develop specifications for new applications and features
Work with systems analysts to develop training
Work with systems analysts to plan, maintain a timeline for, and deliver projects
Communicate with other programmers to prevent duplication of code
Provide assistance to other programmers when needed
Provide tier-3 support for in-house applications
Develop and maintain applications and processes that permit the agency to achieve its goals and mission effectively and efficiently
Actively seek opportunities to improve processes
Create and maintain best practices for IT development
Develop and maintain efficient databases
Work with management and systems analysts to deliver short- and long-term application development goals
Work with systems analysts to appropriately test applications before delivery to production systems
Actively seek opportunities and methods to improve standards
Work with management and systems analysts to create and maintain best practices for software development
Document applications and procedures
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualification

Required

Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field
Knowledge of C#, VB.NET, .NET Standard, .NET Core, SQL, database technology, TypeScript, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
Knowledge of ASP.NET, frontend web frameworks (Angular), Nx, SQL Server, and Git
Ability and desire to learn a wide range of tools and frameworks within the software development discipline
Flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing work environment and adapt development practices to meet the agency's needs, as well as willingness and ability to take on additional responsibilities for extended periods of time during emergencies
Ability to work as part of team in a remote environment
Ability to work independently without direct supervision
Knowledge base generally acquired from a college degree or equivalent training
Limited relevant experience may be required
