Responsibilities
Design, develop, and optimize semi-solid formulations (creams, gels, ointments) for pharmaceutical, dermatological, or topical products
Select and evaluate excipients, APIs, preservatives, and packaging components to ensure stability, efficacy, and patient usability
Conduct pre-formulation studies, compatibility assessments, and risk evaluations
Lead formulation scale-up from lab to pilot and commercial manufacturing
Support technology transfer to manufacturing sites and contract manufacturers
Troubleshoot formulation and process issues during scale-up, validation, and routine production
Design and interpret stability studies in accordance with ICH guidelines
Support method development and evaluation related to semi-solid products
Investigate OOS, OOT, and stability failures; implement corrective actions
Author and review technical documentation including formulation reports, development protocols, batch records, and regulatory sections (e.g., CMC)
Ensure compliance with cGMP, ICH, FDA, EMA, and other applicable regulatory requirements
Support regulatory submissions, audits, and inspections
Mentor junior scientists and provide technical guidance within the formulation team
Collaborate cross-functionally with Analytical, Quality, Manufacturing, Regulatory, and Project Management teams
Lead formulation activities for assigned projects and manage timelines and deliverables
Qualification
Required
PhD or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
7+ years (Master's) or 5+ years (PhD) of hands-on experience in formulation development
Demonstrated expertise in semi-solid dosage forms (creams, gels, ointments)
Experience with scale-up, technology transfer, and commercial manufacturing support
