Engineering Manager

Responsibilities

Support EHS efforts to achieve overall business safety objectives
Manage the engineering and design teams to effectively design and produce project drawings and documentation for the delivery of water and wastewater plants
Prioritize workload based on company goals and priorities. Day-to-day management and assignments working with Project Managers and other stakeholders
Support business development activities by consulting with customers and customers’ technical advisors, as well as preparing preliminary cost estimates and designs
Serve as a technical resource for business development activities across Texas and other parts of the Country and internationally depending on the company’s needs
Ensure that all work products are of the highest quality and are on time
Manage QA/QC within the engineering department to minimize project rework
Work with the Project Management and Construction Management teams to improve and standardize designs to facilitate more effective and streamlined plant construction
Maintain a healthy work culture of performance, transparency, respect, and trust
Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and sharing information
Provide all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
Assess engineering and design tools to ensure the most effective tools are utilized to delivery project materials
Cross-organizational support including marketing, business development, and finance departments to serve as a technical lead

Required

Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field required
Eight (8) to twelve (12) years experience in an engineering firm or in manufacturing specifically working on wastewater projects
Professional Engineering (PE) License in the state of Texas or the ability to acquire it within (6) months as a requirement of the job
Five (5) years experience managing engineers in either a project or a departmental environment
Expert level of proficiency in computer programs for an engineering office
Expert level of working knowledge of municipal water and wastewater engineering processes
Strong understanding of other engineering disciplines including: Mechanical, process, electrical, I&C requirements as well as deep understanding of general water and wastewater plant operations, standard details, scope delineation, and cost estimation
Mastery of the typical document set of documentation required for integration engineering and the sequencing / prerequisites for each, e.g. Mass Balance, PFD's, P&ID's, Facility Arrangements, Equipment Arrangements, Network Architecture Diagrams, Valves Lists, Instrument Lists, etc
Drawing/Document Control including the importance of not having information in multiple locations and revision/change management. Using the drawing/document list and approval status as a measure of progress and performance
Working Manager – Mentor and garner respect from his/her team. Willing and technically able to jump in and help get the job done
Assertive – Must be able to ensure that company norms are adhered to strictly, document control requirements are met, and all engineering products are checked and approved prior to issuance. Must be able to be a voice of reason and authority, make the tough calls
Communicative and social – Must be able to communicate well with teams
Facilitative – Must be able to lead and demonstrate value-add principles to a team
Enthusiastic – Must be high-energy
Continuous improvement – Must seize all opportunities to improve the department's products and processes. Continually be learning new tools and techniques to manage oneself and the team
Conflict resolution – Must be able to facilitate discussion and facilitate alternatives or different approaches
Attitude of transparency – Must embrace transparency both up and down the organization in regards to schedules, performance, and other KPI's related to department performance
Strong aptitude for planning, organizing, scheduling, assigning and evaluating the work of team
Ability to train, encourage, and counsel the team
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred

Experience or Certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) / scrum master would be beneficial
