Nuclear and Low-Carbon Technology Reporter

Energy Intelligence is an independent provider of global energy news, analysis, research and data. The reporter will cover emerging low-carbon energy technologies, particularly in the nuclear sector, and produce news and analysis related to the nuclear fuel market and other low-carbon technologies.

Responsibilities

Work collaboratively as part of global team covering emerging low-carbon energy technologies and corporate strategies, and all aspects of nuclear energy, with a focus on uranium markets and nuclear fuel production and trade
Write original, forward-looking news and analysis against tight daily and weekly deadlines, positioning Energy Intelligence as a leader in these sectors
Proactively produce event-driven, enterprise and agenda-setting news stories, with a strong focus on original information, sourcing and angles
Lead strategic and analytical coverage of the shifting global nuclear energy sector, including energy politics, corporate strategy, nuclear safety and security oversight, financing of new nuclear projects, and policies for nuclear decommissioning and high-level radioactive waste
Understand and explain corporate strategies of a wide range of energy companies working in low-carbon energy technologies beyond nuclear fission, including their approach to R&D, commercialization and interactions with capital markets
Report on nuclear fuel cycle developments, with a market-oriented focus on the front-end of the nuclear fuel cycle, including uranium mining, conversion services, enrichment and fuel fabrication
Oversee implementation of the proprietary Uranium Price Panel, which provides a snapshot of the weekly uranium spot price
Cultivate productive relationships with sources in the public and private sectors, including executives at established and start-up energy companies, government officials, consultants, academics, and uranium market players
Develop as a thought leader on nuclear energy and low-carbon energy trends more broadly
As part of a growing and dynamic team, the reporter may also be required to carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required of them. Some travel will be required, and an ability to routinely attend industry events in the Houston area is a must

Required

Previous reporting experience covering energy and/or commodities, or equivalent related experience
Excellent writing skills, including the ability to explain complex subjects in accessible prose
A proven track record of breaking news
The ability to prioritize and deliver daily, weekly and long-term assignments on time
Familiarity with Excel, and the ability to create basic tables and graphs
A sound knowledge of energy policy and fundamentals, geopolitics, and a basic understanding of the energy sector, ideally the nuclear energy sector
Strong analytical skills to gather information and spot and explain important trends
A love of primary source reporting, and the ability to develop direct contacts with key decision makers
Willingness to travel to attend conferences, industry events, and sites visits
Bachelor's degree or other relevant professional training/diploma or equivalent experience
Excellent written and verbal English

Preferred

Preference for reporting experience covering energy-related technology and corporate strategies in areas such as nuclear, hydrogen, CCS, biofuels and electric vehicles/batteries
Multimedia experience
