Responsibilities
Function in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting civil engineering and design teams on substation projects
Develop, modify, and maintain technical deliverables, including drawings, models, and documentation
Create site grading, drainage, and utility plans using Civil 3D and/or MicroStation
Apply foundational civil engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and solutions
Utilize digital tools such as CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling software to support project deliverables
Review project requirements and determine the appropriate format, content, and level of detail for deliverables
Ensure design outputs comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements
Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and cost estimates as required
Review design inputs for accuracy and consistency; assist in resolving discrepancies
Apply quality control processes to ensure accuracy, consistency, and continuous improvement of deliverables
Provide technical guidance to other technicians and engineering staff within area of expertise
Coordinate with other design disciplines to exchange project information and support integrated design development
May review the work of others and assist with defining work assignments and maintaining schedules
Proactively seek out and share knowledge of emerging technologies, tools, and processes
May support field activities or construction-related efforts as needed
Demonstrate awareness of internal stakeholder needs while understanding external client drivers and project goals
Qualification
Required
Advanced experience with Autodesk Civil 3D, including proposed grading surfaces and plan development
Prior experience supporting grid or substation projects
Strong understanding of civil design standards, document control practices, and quality processes
Ability to work independently on complex technical assignments and provide guidance to others
Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in civil engineering design or drafting
Preferred
Diploma or Certificate in Drafting or a related technical field
Associate Degree in Drafting, Engineering Design Technology, or a related discipline
