Associate Chief of Staff for Specialty Service

Responsibilities

Provide administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for Specialty Services which includes oversight of Podiatry, Infectious Disease, Physical Medicine and Rehab clinic, Pain Team, Pain Intervention Clinic, Nephrology, Cardiology, Urology, Gynecology, Gastroenterology, Chiropractic Care, Respiratory Therapy, Physical Therapy, Audiology, Rheumatology and other specialties based on organizational need
Plan and develop initiatives and programs in collaboration with others to ensure coordination and streamlining of services
Work closely with leaders within the facility to ensure optimization of resources in the care delivery model
Participate in local governance, administrative management, quality assurance, meetings, committees and complete assignments as necessary or assigned
Perform direct clinical care a minimum number of hours per week, as determined by the COS to maintain clinical expertise in the field
Promote effective coordination and support of clinical care by evaluating current and potential patient needs, clinical workload, resources, and special programs/mandates
Monitor and evaluate the quality of specialty services as an integral part of the overall quality assessment and improvement program and assuring compliance with the Joint Commission in addition to maintaining compliance with all VHA policies and performance standards
Promote and evaluate standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through compliance with the credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities
Lead the service in addressing applicable clinical metrics and maintaining awareness of performance expectations
Mentor and lead highly competent, satisfied staff dedicated to providing the highest quality care centered around Veteran needs and optimizing health and well-being

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
Proficiency in spoken and written English

Preferred

Board certified in Internal Medicine subspecialty including but not limited to: Cardiology, Neurology, Pulmonary, GI, ID, Dermatology, Rheumatology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, or Heme/ONC
Board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Practice medicine will be considered
Supervisory experience required
