Responsibilities
Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of network infrastructure including LAN, WAN, VPNs, and wireless networks
Support the deployment and management of Cisco routers, switches, ASA firewalls, and Cisco ISE for network security
Monitor network performance using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, and Splunk; identify and resolve issues proactively
Implement and support routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, and IPsec VPNs to ensure reliable connectivity
Manage network security measures such as firewall rules, IDS/IPS systems, encryption protocols, LDAP/Active Directory authentication, and PKI certificates
Assist with system administration tasks across operating systems including Windows Server, Linux distributions (Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu), Solaris, and macOS
Support remote access solutions using SSH, SFTP, VPNs, Citrix, and other secure methods for remote connectivity
Contribute to network documentation and assist with network architecture design projects involving SDLC principles and high availability configurations
Collaborate with senior engineers on projects involving cloud platforms like Azure and AWS as well as virtualisation environments such as VMware vSphere
Participate in troubleshooting network issues related to DNS, DHCP, NFS, load balancing solutions, SAN storage systems, and network protocols like TCP/IP and UDP
Qualification
Required
A recognised qualification or relevant experience in computer networking or IT support
Basic understanding of network protocols including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP; routing protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP; VPN technologies like IPsec; and security standards including SSL/TLS encryption
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining attention to detail
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to document processes clearly and accurately
Preferred
Familiarity with Cisco networking equipment (routers/switches), firewalls (Cisco ASA), Cisco ISE; Juniper devices is advantageous
Experience with Linux operating systems (Debian, CentOS) or UNIX-based systems (Solaris) is desirable
Knowledge of cloud services such as Azure or AWS; experience with virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere is a plus
Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation tasks; familiarity with Ansible is beneficial
