Responsibilities
Plan and facilitate small-group reading workshops for K-2 students, ensuring phonics instruction is engaging, enjoyable, and tailored to individual learners
Adjust teaching strategies on the spot in response to student needs, group proficiency levels, and real-time engagement signals
Conduct motivational check-ins with students to support their progress in adaptive literacy apps and help them reach learning milestones
Track student performance data from adaptive software and apply insights to differentiate instruction across reading groups
Employ storytelling, humor, gaming metaphors, and positive reinforcement to sustain student effort and address reluctance
Qualification
Required
Willing to work onsite at NextGen Academy in Austin, TX
Bachelor's degree in elementary education, reading, or a related discipline
Certification in structured literacy methods such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, or comparable evidence-based phonics programs
2+ years of experience providing small-group reading instruction to K-2 students or struggling readers
Proven ability to assess student reading levels and independently design differentiated instruction
Enthusiastic about video games and gaming culture, whether or not you are a gamer
Legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship
