VP of Financial Reporting

Responsibilities

Oversee all STAT reporting requirements, including quarterly and annual statements
Ensure accurate preparation of state and NAIC filings and respond to regulatory inquiries
Maintain current knowledge of NAIC updates, capital requirements, and regulatory changes
Lead the preparation and review of XBRL-tagged financial statements
Manage validation, taxonomy updates, tagging accuracy, and overall XBRL reporting quality
Partner with technology teams and reporting vendors to optimize XBRL processes
Direct all aspects of consolidated financial reporting and disclosures
Ensure timely and accurate GAAP reporting, including footnotes and management commentary
Strengthen internal controls around financial reporting, including SOX compliance where applicable
Lead and mentor the financial reporting team while building a high-performing reporting organization
Collaborate closely with FP&A, Actuarial, Treasury, and Operations leadership
Provide reporting insights, trends, and recommendations to the CFO and executive team
Drive modernization in reporting tools, automation, and workflow efficiency
Partner with IT and implementation teams to enhance reporting systems and analytics capabilities
Establish best-practice reporting frameworks, calendars, and governance

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA strongly preferred
10+ years of progressive financial reporting experience within the life insurance industry
Deep knowledge of STAT reporting, including NAIC requirements and state regulatory filings
Hands-on experience with XBRL preparation, tagging, validation, and taxonomy management
Strong understanding of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, RBC, and regulatory capital
Experience leading reporting teams and managing executive-level communication
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proven track record implementing process improvements and reporting automation
