MC Planning Board Intern I/II

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate or graduate intern for the Summer 2026 session. The intern will support the Montgomery County Planning Board in various areas including community engagement, planning board meetings, and research projects related to urban/community planning, public policy, and communications.

Responsibilities

Community Engagement, including responding to resident and public inquiries via email and phone by providing timely and appropriate information; helping to plan events such as speaker series and joint board meetings, providing test sessions to prepare people for providing public testimony, and assisting with gathering materials upon receipt of a Maryland Public Information Act request
Planning Board Meetings, including serving as a backup clerk for hearings, assisting to compile correspondence for the public record, and support compliance with Open Meetings Act requirements
Policies and Procedures, including supporting updated office policies
Research projects to further the mission of the Planning Board
Communications, including drafting social media content, assisting in preparing testimony, and reviewing transmittals for completeness
Additionally, as we are a small team, general administrative duties may also be assigned

Required

Student who are in the process of earning a Bachelor's Degree or in a Master's Degree Program pursuing a degree in urban/community planning, public policy, communications, or a field of study related to the key duties
Students must have at least a 3 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
Experience using Microsoft Office
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with project managers
Students must attach a copy of a college transcript to the application. An unofficial transcript is acceptable
Students must attach a resume and personal statement to the application, indicating goals and aspirations that may be enhanced by participating in the program. Statements must be at least one page long

Additional experience with Wordpress and Adobe Creative Cloud
