The Compliance Specialist is responsible for audit functions within the Compliance Department, ensuring adherence to Federal and State housing regulations, providing training, and assisting with third-party compliance audits.

Responsibilities
Attend compliance monitoring seminars as required by the state monitoring agencies and stay abreast of regulatory and procedural changes
Preapprove all move in files to ensure compliance before households are allowed to move in
Review recertification resident files for compliance with applicable Federal regulations, state requirements, and company policies. Make written recommendations for corrective action
Attend third party compliance reviews as required. Review corrective actions taken by site staff for completion and forward to the Director of Affordable Housing Compliance for further review and submission
In addition to group trainings, the Compliance Specialists continually train staff as they are on site auditing files. This gives the Specialist the opportunity to sit with the site staff, one-on-one, to discuss policies and procedures and to answer any questions
Assist with the development of training workshops. Prepare and present programmatic and procedural information both orally and in writing
Evaluate on-site staff’s tax credit abilities and update the Director of Affordable Housing Compliance and Regional Manager when there seems to be continuous file errors with no improvement
Qualification
Required
High School Diploma/GED
Experience with Internal Revenue Code section 42 and other affordable housing programs (HUD, HOME, BOND, Public Housing, Project Based Section 8, etc.) suggested, but not required
Demonstrated organizational, communications, and analytical skills
Computer experience using Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and word processing programs
