Principal Database Architect
Xscape Photonics Inc is seeking a Database Architect to design and oversee the data ecosystem supporting their next-generation photonic devices. The role involves creating scalable database schemas, building automated data pipelines, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective data governance and integrity.
Responsibilities
Architectural Design: Design and maintain scalable database schemas (SQL/NoSQL) capable of storing high-dimensional data from lasers, modulators, and transceivers
Data Pipeline Orchestration: Build automated ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest raw data from optical measurement equipment (OSAs, BERTs, SMUs) into centralized repositories
Yield & Performance Modeling: Develop the underlying data structures required for statistical models, machine learning (scikit-learn, PyTorch), and Six-Sigma analysis to identify root causes of process variability
Visualization & Reporting: Architect the backend for real-time dashboards and monitoring tools that the design and fab teams use for yield improvement
Cross-Functional Strategy: Collaborate with Photonics Design and Fab Process teams to ensure the database architecture reflects the physical design–process interactions
Governance & Integrity: Implement data validation protocols to ensure the reliability of "single-source-of-truth" data used in failure analysis and DOE (Design of Experiments)
Qualification
Required
Education: Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Experience: 5–10 years in data architecture, specifically within semiconductor manufacturing or hardware test environments
Database Mastery: Advanced proficiency in SQL and NoSQL environments, with a focus on time-series data and large-scale manufacturing datasets
Analysis Stack: Proficiency in Python (Pandas, NumPy) or MATLAB for data manipulation
Statistical Foundation: Strong understanding of JMP, Six-Sigma, and statistical process control (SPC) to ensure the database supports yield optimization
Preferred
Domain Expertise: Familiarity with optical communication systems and the specific data types generated by photonic testing (e.g., spectral plots, eye diagrams)
Cloud Infrastructure: Experience deploying data solutions on AWS, Azure, or GCP using cloud-native data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery)
MLOps: Experience structuring databases to support automated Machine Learning training and inference
Hardware Interface: Understanding of how test equipment (interferometers, oscilloscopes) outputs data to ensure efficient ingestion
