Studio Director
Studio By The Tracks (SBTT) is seeking a Program Director focused on mission-driven work and inclusivity in the arts. The Program Director will oversee programmatic operations, supervise staff, and ensure a welcoming environment for artists and volunteers.
Responsibilities
Contribute to and oversee the creative vision and quality of work produced by SBTT artists
Support SBTT artists in the creation of artwork, including conceptualization and planning for: Individual artists projects, commissioned work(s), exhibitions, special projects, annual fundraisers and other events
Manage classes to ensure a supportive, positive experience for artists, program staff, and volunteers
Contribute to class setup, cleanup, and facilitation as needed
Address conflicts, de-escalate behavior, and support safety in the studio
Oversee post-production processes to prepare artwork for display and sale
Oversee production schedule in collaboration with Studio Manager and coordinate with Marketing on commissions, merchandise, and seasonal projects
Contribute to the curation of artwork for exhibitions, fundraisers, and special events
Support and oversee SBTT programs in coordination with program staff and leadership, including our core Adult Program, Transitional Program, Artist-in-Residency (AIR) Program, and community programs
Maintain open, clear communication across program staff, leadership, and other departments
Ensure a supportive, inclusive studio environment for artists, volunteers, and staff
Collaborate with leadership and program staff to assess mission alignment, capacity, and feasibility for new and existing programs
Develop, refine, and uphold program policies
Manage and participate in hiring program staff in collaboration with leadership
Build and maintain positive relationships with artists, caregivers, supporters, and community partners
Communicate regularly with artists, caregivers, and support organizations regarding scheduling, attendance, events, commissions, and program updates
Respond to and manage inquiries from prospective artists
Oversee intake and onboarding of new artists, collecting necessary forms and communicating studio policies
Maintain accurate contact information in internal databases and communication systems
Support Studio Manager in and contribute to the maintenance, organization, and functionality of studio spaces and inventory of supplies, equipment, and materials
Order supplies and maintain accurate receipt and budget tracking
Oversee program expenditures and collaborate on budget development
Collaborate with studio staff on framing, finishing, packaging, and preparation of works on paper
Track creation, finishing (i.e. framing or packaging), and pricing of artwork for upcoming events and projects
Oversee pricing of artwork and special commissions
Provide direct supervision, scheduling, and administrative oversight of the AIR program
Ensure the AIR program reflects SBTT’s mission and supports meaningful collaboration
Manage the call for applications and AIR selection process
Meet with AIRs throughout their residency to support project development and logistics
Manage the AIR budget and track expenses
Coordinate educational components and final presentations with AIRs and Marketing & Development
Support grant research, writing, and reporting as needed
Compile program data, track expenses, and contribute to program budgets
Maintain accurate contact databases for artists, caregivers, and partner organizations
Participate in and support major fundraising events
Represent SBTT at local art, outreach, and networking events as necessary
Qualification
Required
Organized and committed to collaboration
Enthusiastic about working directly with artists, caregivers, program staff, and community partners
Comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with hands-on studio engagement

Preferred
Experience in arts education, community arts, fine arts, non-profit program management, arts administration, or a related field
Ability to lead with empathy, patience, and clear communication as well as maintain calm and supportive energy in dynamic environments
Strong organizational and project management skills
Experience supervising and managing staff and volunteers
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Experience in a working studio environment, visual arts, art-making processes, or arts programming
Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with artists, caregivers, support organizations, volunteers, leadership, and external partners
Proficiency in budgeting, inventory management (e.g., art supplies), and maintaining databases (e.g., artist/volunteer contacts, artwork tracking)
A strong commitment to fostering a supportive, positive, and inclusive environment for individuals of all abilities and backgrounds
