Fleet Support Engineer

Empire is seeking a Fleet Support Engineer to join their Vehicle Development team and ensure operational excellence across their autonomous vehicle fleet. The role involves providing real-time technical support, conducting root cause analysis, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve vehicle performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

Act as the primary escalation point (Tier 2) for sensor-related fleet issues when repairs aren't immediately obvious
Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for technicians working on chassis, sensors, powertrains, and hydraulic systems
Guide technicians through complex diagnostics using wiring diagrams, functional schematics, and voltage/resistance measurements
Conduct comprehensive log reviews and data analysis to identify root causes of fleet issues
Develop and maintain detailed troubleshooting guides incorporating newly diagnosed faults and resolutions
Track historical vehicle and sensor data to identify trends and recurring problems
Perform hardware bring-up and validation for new sensor components (LiDAR, radar, cameras)
Design diagnostic procedures to streamline troubleshooting, focusing on sensor calibration and data integrity
Work with low/high voltage circuits and Unified Diagnostic Services (UDS) protocols safely and effectively
Partner with engineering design teams to enhance tooling and improve issue detection
Implement countermeasures fleet-wide to prevent recurring issues
Define key metrics to validate issue resolution and measure solution effectiveness
Available for occasional overtime (with advance notice) and travel within the U.S. to support operational locations
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for vehicle performance and reliability

Required

4–8 years of relevant experience in transportation, aerospace, autonomous vehicles, or related fields, with focus on perception systems and sensors
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or Computer Science
Hands-on experience with low/high voltage circuits and UDS (Unified Diagnostic Services)
Strong understanding of hardware/software systems architecture and communications in operational settings
Ability to read and interpret schematics, electrical diagrams, connector pinouts, and technical documentation
Holistic problem-solving mindset: You can trace high-level vehicle function issues down to individual component failures
Self-starter with excellent relationship-building skills across cross-functional teams
Ability to pass a background check
