Senior Systems Administrator / IT Manager
Systems Research Inc. (SRI) is seeking a hands-on Senior Systems Administrator / IT Manager to take ownership of their infrastructure, security, and Microsoft 365 environment while deploying AI tools across the business. The ideal candidate will manage systems, network security, and end-user support while ensuring compliance and efficiency in IT operations.
Responsibilities
On-prem servers, Active Directory, file services, backups, and patching
Reliability, performance, and disaster-recovery readiness
FortiGate firewalls (71F) and UniFi switches/Wi-Fi
Endpoint security, MFA, conditional access, and access controls
Coordination with external security vendors as needed
Entra ID (Azure AD), Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive
User onboarding/offboarding and license optimization
Governance to prevent data sprawl and risk
Deploy approved AI tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot and related platforms)
Define and enforce AI acceptable-use, data handling, and access policies
Ensure AI adoption improves productivity without increasing risk
Partner with leadership on AI strategy, guardrails, and rollout
Tier 2/3 escalation support when needed
Clear documentation, standards, and self-service processes
Proactive problem prevention—not constant firefighting
Manage vendors, contracts, renewals, and IT spend
Use consultants selectively for major projects or specialized work
Qualification
Required
7–12+ years of hands-on IT experience (SMB or mid-market)
Strong background in Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365
Practical firewall and network experience (Fortinet preferred)
Experience deploying and governing AI tools in a business environment
Comfortable replacing or operating beyond an MSP model
Clear communicator who can translate technical issues to leadership
Preferred
Certifications are a plus but not required (Microsoft, Fortinet, Security, AI governance)
