Materials & Processes (M&P) Sr Engineer - Space Radiation - Lunar Permanence
Blue Origin envisions millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. The Materials & Processes Sr Engineer will be responsible for welding engineering for various spaceflight systems, ensuring compliance with space environment effects, and supporting the Lunar program's infrastructure development.

Responsibilities
Provide environment definition and guidance for compliance with space environment effects to hardware owners (SLS-SPEC-159, Cross-Program Design Specification for Natural Environments (DSNE)) in terms of designs and materials
Serve as subject matter expert for radiation environment, including UV exposure, overall mission phases; serve as liaison between hardware owners and test capability to support completion of testing as needed. Identify any risks to the lander and express to the team
Serve as POC for atomic oxygen environment definition and effects over all mission phases, define potential risks to hardware, provide support in test and design as needed for deep space systems
Serve as POC for neutral atmosphere environment, define the environment, identify expected effects to the vehicle, work with hardware owners to address, design, and test as needed
Review and sign off on material selections for hardware exposed to these environments
Current with space environment models (AE9/AP9/SPENVIS) and integrate results into materials risk assessments
Supporting all product teams with hardware exposed to these environments
Review and approve drawings for conformance to the Lunar Crew Lander Parts, Materials, and Process Plan
Assist in addressing and dispositioning nonconformances and implementing corrective actions
Find opportunities for improvements to quality, cost, and schedule
Coach, mentor, and technically assist other engineers
Support design, analysis, and materials selection; drive process development, allowable generation, and qualifications
Qualification
Required
Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical, or related field
10+ Years of demonstrated Space environments experience on a production flight or space program
In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization and NDI techniques
Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis
Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
Ability to travel to support development and testing opportunities at other Blue Origin and vendor sites
Preferred
MS/ Ph.D. degree in Aerospace, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering
15+ Years of demonstrated space engineering experience on a production flight or space program
Experience running ambient, elevated temperature, and cryogenic thermomechanical testing
