Senior Employment Compliance Specialist
Knowledge Services is a leading multidisciplinary organization in the software, professional services, and cybersecurity industries, seeking an experienced Senior Employment Compliance Specialist. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and involves supporting HR, Legal, and business leaders with compliance initiatives, policy governance, training, audits, and reporting.
Responsibilities
Serve as a subject matter expert for employment-related compliance programs and regulatory requirements
Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, recommend and implement updates to HR policies, programs, and practices
Oversee employment compliance policies, governance standards, documentation requirements, and audit readiness
Support compliance areas including wage and hour, onboarding documentation, record retention, time-of-hire notices, state-specific labor requirements, and risk mitigation for high-risk jurisdictions
Leads and supports FLSA classification reviews, job description compliance assessments, and exempt/non-exempt determinations, partnering with HR leadership and Internal General Counsel to mitigate classification and wage-and-hour risk
Partners closely with HR leadership and Internal General Counsel to interpret employment laws, assess risk, and implement legally compliant HR policies, practices, and corrective actions
Monitors emerging regulatory and industry compliance trends to support organizational readiness for evolving employment compliance
Perform regular compliance reviews of HR processes, including onboarding requirements, employee records, I-9 documentation, position requirements, background screening processes, and other HR-owned workflows
Conduct internal audits of HR practices, files, systems, and documentation to identify compliance gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
Recommends and supports corrective actions to reduce risk, improve consistency, and strengthen employment compliance
Evaluates compliance risks based on severity, likelihood, regulatory exposure, and business impact; prioritizes remediation efforts and communicates risk levels and recommendations to HR leadership
Develops and maintains a risk-based compliance approach that emphasizes prevention, internal controls, and continuous improvement across HR
Seeks opportunities to enhance efficiency, streamline workflows, and improve documentation
Develops, delivers, and maintains employment compliance-related training, including wage and hour, timekeeping practices, policy updates, ADA accommodations, and related compliance topics
Review compliance training content regularly and recommend updates based on regulatory changes, audit findings and risk trends
Provide guidance and training to managers and employees on compliance issues, policy interpretation, and ethical workplace practices
Support organizational change efforts by helping stakeholders understand compliance-driven changes, their rationales, and required behavioral or process
Maintains compliance dashboards and reporting tools to track key compliance metrics, risks, initiatives, and deadlines
Creates and runs employment compliance and HR data reports to support audits, risk assessments, and leadership decision-making
Manage employment compliance-related reporting and filings, including EEO, ACA, and other government-mandated requirements
Owns and manages the annual employment compliance and reporting calendar, ensuring deadlines are met accurately and on time
Owns the definition, configuration, and validation of employment compliance controls within HR systems (including ADP), ensuring workflows, data, and reporting meet regulatory and audit requirements
Validates system outputs, dashboards, and compliance reports for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory
Partners with HR leaders to implement system enhancements, updates, and controls that reduce compliance risk and improve audit readiness
Exercises independent judgment in identifying employment compliance risks and determining appropriate corrective actions within established policies and regulatory requirements
Has the authority to require corrective actions, documentation updates, or process changes when compliance gaps or risks are identified
Escalates material compliance risks, unresolved findings, or high-impact regulatory concerns to HR leadership and Internal General Counsel for review, guidance, and resolution
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Legal Studies, or a related field
2–5 years in employment compliance, risk management, or related function
Strong working knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including EEO, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, and related requirements
Experience working in a fast-growing or mid-sized organization
Preferred
Experience supporting multi-state or nationwide workforces
Exposure to compliance audits, government filings, or employment-related risk assessments
Familiarity with HRIS, compliance tracking tools, reporting, or dashboards
