Public Services Director
The City of Dania Beach is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the Director of Public Services. This role involves directing and administering the operational aspects of public services, including project management, maintenance, and coordination with other city departments.
Responsibilities
Plans, budgets, coordinates and supervises the construction and maintenance programs for the City’s Public Services Department
Participates at City Commission meetings and other community meetings as required
Implements work order tracking system and provides reports for same, including annual storm water report
Provides assistance to supervisors; prepares reports and makes presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the public
Handles department personnel matters including but not limited to; corrective action, coaching, employee performance, hiring, and staff assignment
Plans, coordinates and supervises the work of supervisory personnel engaged in construction and maintenance of roads, pump stations, equipment repair, building/facilities maintenance and related activities
Reviews existing practices and procedures to ascertain methods of improving construction and maintenance work; consults with employees, contractors and other governmental units
Plans construction projects and determines material, equipment and manpower requirements; analyzes cost factors and various financial/expenditure records to maximize operating efficiency
Makes necessary field inspections prior to and during construction to ensure compliance with plans and instructions or to provide technical assistance on unusual, difficult or complex issues
Reviews and approves requisitions for repair parts and supplies; prepares or approves specifications for new equipment; ensures new equipment adheres to contract specifications
Prepares or assists in the preparation of plans, specifications, and contracts for projects within the department; administers all contracts within the department
Obtains financing for capital projects as needed, ensuring the most flexibility and least cost
Plans, implements and administers the public services departmental budget; monitors and ensures adherence to established operating and expenditure parameter
Meets the public and answers questions; receives public requests for information and receives and provides resolutions to any received complaints regarding work activities of divisions under charge
Appraises adequacy of facilities and develops plans and priorities for modification and extensions; evaluates soundness and efficiency of operations; supervises the installation of improvements; and develops work programs and budgetary estimates
Assesses the need for consultant services and recommends; accordingly, represents the City's interests in overseeing and evaluating consultant recommendations
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Engineering or closely related field
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of public works, utilities and/or engineering experience at the administration level, including management and budget development and administration
Experience can substitute for education on a year for year basis
Possession of a valid driver's license with overall good driving record required. If driver's license is out of state, must be able to obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire date
Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of FL preferred but not required
