Mechanical Engineer I
The University of Rochester is committed to the principles of Meliora - Ever Better and is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I. This role primarily supports the NSF OPAL research program by contributing to the design and development of advanced mechanical systems while also assisting the Mechanical Engineering Group with various design responsibilities.

Responsibilities
Develop conceptual and detailed designs of mechanical parts and assemblies in support of the NSF OPAL project and other ME Group initiatives
Support research-focused mechanical development, including prototype design, integration, and iterative refinement
Provide supporting engineering and safety analyses as required
Prepare materials for engineering design reviews and technical discussions
Generate technical drawings in compliance with applicable standards and internal processes
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, scientists, and technicians
Work both independently and as part of a project team, balancing research and operational priorities
Qualification
Required
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and 1 year of relevant experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong educational foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, including coursework in materials science, machine design, heat transfer, structural analysis, and manufacturing processes
Preferred
Advanced beginner proficiency with CAD software preferred
Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) tools preferred
Coursework in vibrations, finite element analysis (FEA), and technical writing is a plus
