Library Assistant I - Children's Librarian
NEOGOV is a part of Sevier County Government, and they are seeking a Library Assistant I - Children's Librarian to support the daily operations and public services of the library. The role involves checking materials in and out, assisting patrons, and supporting children's programming across multiple library locations.

Responsibilities
Checks library materials in and out, renews items, and processes holds and overdue notices in accordance with established policies and procedures
Re-shelves books, audio-visual materials, and other items while ensuring proper organization and shelving accuracy throughout the library
Registers new patrons for library cards and updates existing records to maintain accurate patron information
Answers incoming phone calls, provides basic information, relays messages, and makes calls regarding holds, overdue items, and program reminders
Assists library patrons by answering directional and general informational questions in person and by phone
Collects fines and fees for overdue materials, printing, copying, and fundraising items while providing clear explanations to patrons
Completes daily paperwork including circulation activity logs, financial reports, and documentation for funds received
Files circulation-related paperwork in designated locations to ensure proper records management
Cleans and repairs DVDs and CDs as needed to maintain material quality and usability
Assists with after-school snack service and supervises youth behavior in accordance with the library’s Code of Conduct
Provides reader’s advisory and assists patrons with catalog searches and locating materials within the library
Assists patrons with basic technology use including public computers, printing, scanning, faxing, and wireless access
Provides one-on-one guidance for patrons using digital library services and check-out technology such as tablets and Wi-Fi hotspots
Assists with planning, preparation, and support for programs and events for children, teens, and adults as assigned
Creates and updates bulletin boards, displays, and educational flyers on library topics and services
Catalogs magazines and performs other basic cataloging tasks as directed
Supports passive programming efforts and promotes library events and services to patrons
Delivers interoffice materials, books, and supplies between the main library and branch locations as needed
Participates in regular staff meetings, professional development activities, and program planning sessions
Communicates effectively and respectfully with patrons of diverse backgrounds and abilities to ensure positive library experiences
Provides backup support at other library service desks or departments when necessary to ensure uninterrupted service
Reports facility or maintenance issues to the Library Director or designated staff when custodial personnel are unavailable
Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Tennessee driver's license and to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates
Ability to pass a physical and drug screen administered through a licensed physician
Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled and travel between library locations as needed
Preferred
Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a public library or similar public service environment
