Computational Physicist (Scientist 2)
Los Alamos National Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. They are seeking an early computational physicist to join the Lagrangian Codes group, where the role involves developing and maintaining large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes.

Responsibilities
Working in the Lagrangian Codes group (XCP-1) which develops and maintains large scale, massively parallel multi-physics codes targeting the computers of today and the future, including heterogeneous architectures, ARM, and GPUs
Demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments
Exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors
Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by publications and presentations
Advanced multi-year experience on a code development team that has delivered and maintained software for users
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams
Experience mentoring junior staff and/or students in technical and professional development
Qualification
Required
Professional knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas: radiation (magneto)hydrodynamics, turbulence, computational fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, materials science, high explosives, mesh generation and optimization, computational science, and research software engineering
Knowledge and/or experience in the development of scientific codes
Demonstrated proficiency with FORTRAN, C/C++, or another high-performance computing programming language
Demonstrated the ability to function effectively in a team environment with a willingness to learn new skills and be flexible in work assignments
Exhibiting professional conduct in interactions with co-workers and supervisors
Demonstrated scientific productivity as evidenced by publications and presentations
Advanced multi-year experience on a code development team that has delivered and maintained software for users
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams
Experience mentoring junior staff and/or students in technical and professional development
Position requires a Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited college and university and 4 years of related experience
Preferred
Experience using high-performance computing (HPC) environments, MPI, and UNIX
PhD or MS in physics, engineering, applied mathematics, or a related field
Experience with Lagrangian or Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) hydrodynamics and other physics (or multi-physics) in that context
Experience with code development on high performance and heterogeneous architectures
Experience with and demonstrated interest in LANL's mission and research environment
Demonstrated impact on programmatic deliverables for the nuclear weapons program
Active Q clearance is desirable
