Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in a renewable diesel production facility to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.

Responsibilities

Installing, maintaining, testing, evaluating, and repairing various electrical components and systems including low voltage automation systems
Test electrical systems and equipment to ensure functionality and safety
Troubleshoot and repair or replace faulty wiring, motors, switches, breakers, and related components
Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment failures
Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards and safety regulations
Collaborate with other maintenance and production staff to resolve low-voltage electrical issues
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work
Install, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation including: pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters
Troubleshoot and repair control valves, actuators, switches, analyzers, and PLC-based control systems
Interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation datasheets
Perform loop checks and function tests during shutdowns, turnarounds, and new installations
Maintain accurate calibration and instrumentation records
Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of DCS, PLC, SIS, and SCADA systems
Monitor control system alarms, process deviations, and equipment performance
Support plant upgrades, modifications, and system optimization initiatives
Follow all refinery safety policies including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work permits
Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
Comply with environmental, reliability, and operational standards
May require overtime or on-call work to handle emergency repairs

Required

Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related technical field
3 years of I&E experience in an industrial environment
Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (low voltage)
Proficiency in calibration and maintenance of industrial instruments
Familiarity with PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), DCS platforms (Honeywell, Emerson), and safety systems
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manuals
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
Be fit to perform the essential functions of the job including working in an industrial work environment that may include loud areas, work around rotating equipment/operating equipment/heavy equipment, extreme temperatures, dust, work at heights, entry into confined spaces, and other potential chemical/atmospheric hazards that require use of appropriate PPE
Requires ability to perform physical tasks including frequent walking, standing for extended periods of time, climbing ladders or stairs, and lifting or carrying items weighing up to 40 lbs
Must be legally eligible to work in the US without sponsorship

Preferred

Certifications: ISA, NCCER, Comp Ex, or similar
Experience with refinery turnaround/shutdown maintenance
Experience in maintenance in petrochemical or renewables refinery
Knowledge of hazardous area classifications (ATEX, NEC Class I Div I/II)
Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
Predictive Maintenance and/or Precision Maintenance Certifications
