DevOps Engineer - Build Engineer - Costco Travel

Costco IT is responsible for the technical future of Costco Wholesale, the third largest retailer in the world. They are seeking a DevOps Engineer - Build Engineer to automate software builds, test and deployment systems, and manage infrastructure as code, while collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient and reliable software delivery.

Responsibilities

Identifies, creates and applies software development and security standards and practices
Plans, designs, and documents software components
Develops and operates end-to-end automated solutions for IT ops activities (including deployment, release management, monitoring, etc.)
Collaborates with Operations, Development, and QA functions to develop solutions that are predisposed to scalability and simplified maintenance
Configures and maintains on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure to ensure availability, performance, scalability and security of development, testing and production environments, relying on automated scripts and configuration management tools
Creates, and manages Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
Maintains, extends and builds automated CI and CD pipelines
Demonstrates expertise in the deployment of integrated or stand-alone releases across multiple interconnected and disperse applications
Uses industry standard tools to improve and speed up delivery of our products and services
Provides fast and thoughtful issue resolution by executing quick fixes or proactively identifying and solving problems related to builds in production environments
Creates the pipeline to periodically generate code quality metrics
Drives each team to be self-sufficient by providing tools and training and brings different teams together to work towards common goals
Coordinates resources across technology functions to stand up and monitor environments
Configures and automates development and test environment, deployment, automation and support test data management
Establishes workflows that use the automated pipelines for CI and CD
Works closely with product and application teams to create version control branching strategy
Works cross-value streams with other DevOps Engineers to avoid and resolve merge conflicts
Develops tool integrations that allow for end to end traceability for application development (from requirements to code objects changed to meet the requirements)
Designs and develops solutions to improve developer experience and code velocity to production
Designs, develops, and maintains automated build systems and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines
Optimizes build processes to reduce build times and improve efficiency
Monitors build systems and proactively resolve issues to minimize downtime
Implements and maintains build configurations across multiple platforms (Windows, Linux)
Creates and maintains build scripts, tools, and automation frameworks
Automates repetitive tasks to improve team productivity
Integrates third-party tools and services into the build pipeline
Maintains version control strategies and branching models
Provides technical support and troubleshooting for build-related issues
Documents build processes, procedures, and best practices
Monitors and optimizes build performance metrics
Implements security best practices in build and deployment processes
Manages build artifacts, dependencies, and package repositories

Required

3+ years of experience in build engineering, DevOps, or related role
Strong experience with CI/CD platforms (Jenkins, Git, GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar)
Proven track record of implementing and maintaining automated build systems
Experience with version control systems, particularly Git
Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Groovy)
Strong understanding of build tools (Gradle, Maven, etc.)
Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
