Responsibilities
Providing counsel on a variety of legal issues to Federal Signal’s internal business clients
Advising internal business teams on legal risks, obligations, and best practices
Assisting with employment‑related matters such as policies, investigations, and compliance
Managing outside counsel when specialized expertise is required
Developing and improving internal processes and policies
Providing broad legal support across the company, handling a mix of commercial, corporate, litigation, mergers and acquisitions, compliance, employment, and operational matters
Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a broad range of commercial agreements
Advising clients regarding compliance with state and federal legal requirements impacting the business
Handling a variety of other tasks as a legal advisor and business partner
Qualification
Required
J.D. from an accredited law school required
Licensed and in good standing with a state bar required
10+ years of legal experience required; a mix of law firm and in‑house experience preferred
Strong business judgment and ability to balance legal risks with practical solutions
Collaborative mindset and ability to build trust across teams
Proven negotiation and analytical skills
Demonstrated litigation management skills
Strong contract drafting skills with keen attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to interact confidently, persuasively, and diplomatically with all levels of organization
Minimal travel
Preferred
a mix of law firm and in‑house experience preferred
