Training Specialist 1 / Trainee 1 / Trainee 2 (NY HELPS)
The NYS Department of Transportation is seeking a Training Specialist 1 to develop, implement, and manage training classes for its employees statewide. The role involves identifying training needs, administering training classes, and evaluating their effectiveness.

Responsibilities
Identifying specific training needs
Administering, and/or presenting training classes virtually and in-person that are designed to improve on-the-job knowledge, skills and abilities of agency personnel
Assisting with developing new curricula
Preparing lesson plans for classes conducted
Evaluating classes for effective and potential improvements
Serving as an administrator for the NYSDOT Learning Management System (LMS), and the Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS) as needed
Preparing and disseminating training announcements
Preparing proposals for training programs utilizing external funding
Assisting in creating online training classes using e-learning authoring software
Travel is required
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations
Qualification
Required
Four years of experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out the mission
An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor's degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master's degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience
Five years of experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out the mission
Six years of experience developing and presenting training programs to improve the on-the-job knowledge, skills, and abilities of employees to enable them to carry out the mission
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law
