Responsibilities
Advise on global patent and IP strategy
Provide transactional support for product and engineering teams
Assist in developing and managing Bloom’s patent portfolio, including invention mining from engineering and manufacturing teams
Offer counseling on IP related issues for new products and features
Provide transactional support to corporate and operations teams for IP and IT-related products and services (e.g., licensing agreements, SaaS and other cloud-based services, IT outsourcing, IT hardware)
Provide strategic legal counsel on the development, deployment, and governance of artificial intelligence systems across the enterprise
Provide IP-related subject-matter expertise and counseling to colleagues developing, negotiating, and managing a variety of commercial contracts (e.g., customer-facing agreements, joint venture agreements, engineering & construction, field services, marketing, consulting and other professional services)
Create IP-related policies, procedures, training programs, compliance programs
Qualification
Required
15+ years of IP experience at a top law firm or in-house with a mix of prosecution, transactional and/or litigation experience
Background experience in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, materials science, chemistry or physics
Experience with AI governance policies, procedures, and best practices aligned with legal requirements and industry standards
Significant experience partnering with and providing support to product and engineering teams is required
Demonstrated experience leading or otherwise actively supporting IP or IT-related transactions
JD degree and active membership in the California State Bar
Preferred
Experience with product development and industrial manufacturing is a plus
Experience developing/managing open source policies is a plus
