Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to behavioral health patients in accordance with established standards and policies
Perform patient assessments, develop nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
Administer medications and monitor patient responses
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary care teams
Monitor patient safety, manage crisis situations, and utilize de-escalation techniques as appropriate
Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and available resources
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory requirements
Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Graduate of a Registered Nursing program
Current BCLS certification
Current Iowa Registered Nurse License or compact state nursing license allowing practice in Iowa
Strong knowledge of behavioral health nursing principles and practices
Ability to assess and respond effectively to patients experiencing mental health crises
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress healthcare environment
Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and documentation skills
Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred
Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience
Acute care hospital experience
