Responsibilities
Reconstruct the Chart of Accounts and enforce a disciplined month-end close (target: 5 days). You will own the GL mechanics and audit reconciliations
Design and implement rigorous internal controls to safeguard assets, specifically focusing on inventory custody, cash disbursements, and payroll
Prepare the company for its first external audit. Ensure all workpapers and schedules are defensible
You will tear down and rebuild our Standard Costing model. Partner with the Plant Manager to audit and correct Bill of Materials (BOMs) and labor routings. Build trust into a system that says a part costs what it actually costs
Partner with the Inventory & Planning team to implement cycle counting and scrap tracking programs so we know exactly where every dollar of material is at any moment
Provide the CEO with the true Gross Margin by SKU and Customer, stripping away allocations to reveal actual unit economics
Build dynamic, 3-statement financial models in Excel to support decision-making. Build and maintain a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast
Lead the company-wide budgeting process. You won't just set the numbers; you will enforce them. Own the Monthly Business Review, including a 'Budget vs. Actuals' analysis. You will act as the accountability engine that identifies exactly where and why we drifted from the plan
Develop and track a unified set of KPIs—ranging from Scrap Rates and Inventory Turns (operational efficiency) to Gross Margins by SKU and Customer Profitability (commercial profitability)—to isolate which parts of the business are creating value and which are destroying it
Qualification
Required
8+ years of progressive experience
A mix of Public Accounting (Audit) and Operational (Plant/Divisional) Controller roles in manufacturing
Experience working directly with operations/production teams, not just at a corporate HQ
Proven track record of leading a financial transformation
Successfully cleaned up a messy GL, fixed an ERP implementation, or reduced a close cycle by 50%
Expert-level grasp of Standard Costing, BOMs, and Variance Analysis
CPA or CMA preferred
Advanced Excel skills are non-negotiable
Comfortable building complex models and cash forecasts from scratch (Index/Match, nested Ifs, sensitivity tables) without relying on a template
Deep experience with mid-market ERPs (e.g., Sage, IQMS, Epicor)
Understand how the 'Gears' of the ERP (Purchasing, Receiving, Production) turn the 'Wheels' of the GL
