Public Works Assistant Director of Engineering
NEOGOV is seeking a Public Works Assistant Director of Engineering for the City of Brighton. This key leadership role involves overseeing the engineering functions of the Public Works Department, including transportation planning, roadway design, and infrastructure project management while ensuring compliance with city standards and fostering collaboration within the department.

Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Public Works in managing the department and assume duties in their absence
Supervise and provide direction to engineering staff, including performance management and coordination
Develop and implement divisional goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
Oversee budgeting and management of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP), ensuring adherence to financial allocations and timelines
Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of engineering personnel
Review and approve project plans, specifications, and documents to ensure compliance with city standards
Investigate complaints, conduct field inspections, and prepare written responses as needed
Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and government agencies to facilitate project execution
Conduct engineering analyses and recommend strategies for infrastructure improvements
Represent the City at public meetings and professional organizations
Stay informed on industry best practices, technologies, and regulatory changes
Promote effective communication and collaboration within the department and across City divisions
Perform other duties and projects as assigned by the Director of Public Works
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited institution
Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in public works engineering and project management
Strong leadership skills with experience supervising professional staff and managing complex projects
Knowledge of engineering principles, construction standards, and regulatory requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficiency in project management software and engineering tools such as ArcGIS and AutoCAD
Valid Colorado driver's license (or ability to obtain)
Professional Engineer (PE) license required
Valid driver's license with a safe driving record
Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds
Complete FEMA ICS 100 and IS 700 training within six months of hire
Preferred
Certification in Public Works Management (e.g., APWA) is a plus
