Payroll Specialist
South Texas College is a higher education institution, and they are seeking a Payroll Specialist to oversee various accounting and payroll functions for their Business Office. Responsibilities
Maintains and reconciles general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts
Oversees assigned accounting functions in the Business Office
Prepares and enters journal entries and budget changes
Prepares financial reports and management reports
Assists in preparation of budget
Prepares reconciliation of assigned accounting function accounts
Prepares functions and ascertains appropriate regulatory compliance
Investigates discrepancies and resolves questions and issues related to assigned accounting function
Prepares local, state and federal reports including 941 and TWC Quarterly Reporting
Assists with preparing end of year Tax Statements including Tax Form W-2’s
Prepares various payroll reporting and payments including Teacher Retirement System (TRS) and Optional Retirement Program (ORP)
Acts as liaison between Technology Resources, Human Resources and payroll staff for projects and related issues
Maintains record retention of all Business Office documents
Develops ad hoc financial reporting, as needed
Keeps abreast of payroll laws and or other pertinent laws in assigned related area of accounting
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field required
At least two (2) years of payroll and reporting experience required
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills
Familiarity with accounting functions and compliance with laws pertaining to assigned functions
Proficient with ten key by touch
Knowledge of tax deposit preparation
Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines
Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others
Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation
Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance
