TRIO Scholars Assistant Director
The University of California, Riverside is seeking a TRIO Scholars Assistant Director to manage and implement all aspects of the TRIO Scholars Program. The role involves overseeing recruitment, program activities, and staff training, while providing support and advising to first-generation and low-income students.

Responsibilities
Manage and implement all aspects of the TRIO Scholars Program
Serve as the primary contact and conduct quarterly contacts with program participants
Oversee all recruitment efforts of new program participants
Plan and coordinate program activities
Hire and train program staff (Retention Specialist & Educational Advisor PT)
Provide advising to a caseload of participants, including assistance with course planning, navigating campus resources, career preparation, and graduate school exploration
Recruit, select, train, and supervise the Retention Specialist
Supervise a shared Part Time Educational Advisor
Oversee the tutoring program (recruit, hire, train program tutors) and graduate mentor program
Plan educational field trips and events
Document program services in compliance with federal regulations and collect data for annual performance reports
Assist the Director in making decisions regarding allocations of funds for program implementation
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Master's degree in related area
3-4 years of experience
Experience working with TRIO, student support programs, or university research programs
Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems
Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques
Knowledge of challenges encountered by first-generation, low-income college students and students underrepresented in graduate education
Solid verbal and written communication skills
Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations
Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance
Interpersonal skills
Preferred
Knowledge of complex U.S. visa and immigration procedures, compliance issues, and employment eligibility/authorization for international students and scholars
Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences
