Controls & Automation Engineer - Process Components
SPX FLOW, Inc. is seeking an experienced Controls & Automation Engineer – Process Components to lead the design and implementation of advanced automation solutions for the food and beverage industry. The role focuses on designing control tops, IoT-enabled systems, and process automation for sanitary applications, while managing projects and collaborating with various engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities
Control System Design
Clarification of detail requirements and creating requirement specifications for hardware and software for electronic modules for Valve Control Units for interfacing with the process PLC system communications
Design and configure valve control tops, including actuator selection, position feedback, and integration with automation systems
Design and Develop control top- hardware and software for actuator operated valves for process industry software in close collaboration with external development partners and the manufacturer
PCB hardware design, with CAD layout system (Eagle, etc.)
Software design, based on C/C++ for µ-controllers
Application and implementation of industrial communication protocols (AS-Interface, IO-Link, Direct Connect, DeviceNet, ProfiBus, ProfiNet)
Develop PLC/HMI programs, control narratives, I/O lists, and instrumentation specifications
Review and optimize P&IDs for integration of pumps, valves, and heat exchangers
Creating verification test plans and executing the tests on functional samples and final parts
Development of PC-Interface programs (Toolbox) for the configuration of valve control units
Select or Design IoT solutions for process components like Pumps, Valve and Heat exchanges
Architect IIoT solutions for real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance
Implement industrial communication protocols: OPC UA, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, MQTT
Configure smart valve control tops using AS-i or IO-Link networks for diagnostics and CIP/SIP automation
Manage projects from concept through industrial release and validation
Conduct risk assessments and hazard analysis
Work closely with process, electrical, and mechanical engineers
Provide technical mentorship and troubleshooting support
Attending customer meetings to provide technical support to the commercial team
Undertaking technical discussions with customers and suppliers
Attending relevant project meetings e.g.:
Launch / kick-off meetings
Progress reviews
Design reviews
Communicating information to stakeholders in a timely fashion
Supporting other disciplines, during the design phase, to achieve project or proposal deliverables e.g
Supply Chain (e.g. initial specification, review of supplier quotes, purchase requisitions, etc)
Process design (e.g. liaising re functional requirements)
Electrical design (e.g. sharing I/O lists to allow allocation to panel, agreeing tagging and addressing standard)
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical or other related discipline Engineering
5+ years of experience in automation for food, beverage, or sanitary industries
Expertise in PLC (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI/SCADA (FactoryTalk, Ignition, Wonderware)
Strong knowledge of valve control tops and integration with automation systems
Familiarity with IoT/IIoT platforms and industrial protocols
Understanding of CIP/SIP processes and food safety regulations
Excellent documentation and communication skills
Preferred
Experience with pumps, valves, and heat exchanger automation
Hands-on commissioning and validation experience
Experience in New product development process to develop control components with hardware and software
