Director, Facilities & Operations

Responsibilities

Own the overall facilities operations strategy for one or more data center sites
Ensure alignment with company goals including uptime, energy efficiency, compliance, and cost control
Define service level agreements (SLAs), key performance indicators (KPIs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for facilities operations
Serve as the senior escalation point for facilities-related risks and decisions
Oversee daily operations of all critical infrastructure systems, including:
Electrical: utility feeds, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, PDUs
Mechanical: chillers, CRAHs/CRACs, pumps, cooling towers, liquid-cooling systems
Controls: BMS, EPMS, SCADA platforms
Ensure Tier III / Tier IV–level reliability with a target of 99.999% uptime through disciplined operational practices
Lead incident response, root cause analysis (RCA), and corrective action planning for infrastructure events
Lead facilities engineers, technicians, and mangers across 24/7X365 operations
Develop staffing models to support continuous coverage and operational resilience
Establish training, certification, and career development pathways for technical staff
Foster a strong safety culture and high standards of operational excellence
Design and implement preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) programs across all systems
Manage vendor service contracts for electrical and mechanical infrastructure
Ensure spare parts, tools, and consumables are adequately stocked, tracked, and maintained
Continuously improve reliability programs to reduce incidents and extend asset life delivering best value
Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, including OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA, ISO, and local jurisdictional requirements
Own audit readiness for customers, investors, insurers, and regulatory bodies
Develop, enforce, and continuously improve safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, arc-flash, confined space entry, chemical handling)
Identify operational risks and implement mitigation and contingency plans
Own and manage operating budgets (Opex) related to utilities, maintenance contracts, and repairs
Support capital planning (CapEx) for retrofits, upgrades, expansions, and new technologies
Negotiate, manage, and evaluate vendor relationships including OEMs, service providers, and contractors
Drive cost optimization while maintaining reliability and safety standards
Track, analyze, and improve Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and other efficiency metrics
Lead sustainability initiatives such as free cooling strategies, water optimization, and renewable energy integration
Partner with engineering teams to evaluate, pilot, and adopt new facility technologies
Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations and infrastructure performance
Work closely with Operations, Security, IT, Engineering, and Construction teams
Provide facilities expertise and operational input for new builds, expansions, and major upgrades
Act as the primary escalation point for customer concerns related to physical infrastructure and reliability

Required

10+ years of experience in data center facilities operations, critical infrastructure, or mission-critical environments
5+ years in a senior leadership role managing large technical teams and 24/7 operations
Deep expertise in electrical and mechanical systems supporting Tier III / Tier IV data centers
Proven experience managing compliance, audits, and safety programs
Experience managing large Opex budgets and supporting CapEx planning
Strong track record of vendor management and cross-functional collaboration
