Responsibilities
Diagnose and isolate failure modes using advanced electrical and thermal characterization tools, including oscilloscopes, parametric analyzers, and curve tracers
Investigate and identify root causes of components and device level failures such as short, opens, excessive leakage, performance degradation, thermal instability
Must have fundamental knowledge in failure mechanisms and accelerated life testing of electronic devices
Analyze electronic components using non-destructive and destructive techniques such as X-ray imaging, acoustic microscope, time-domain reflectometry, IV curves
Collaborate with cross-discipline teams of engineers to determine root cause and provide corrective action for improving reliability life cycle within design, manufacturing and qualification
Familiarity with reading electronic schematics for electronic components and circuit cards
Actively participate in technical reviews to share technical analysis results with program stakeholders
Working knowledge of compound semiconductor fabrication and testing
Fundamental knowledge of electronic packages construction and functionality: FPGA, QFNs, Wire-bonding, Flip-Chip devices
Communicate technical results and status updates to management and program stakeholders
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree with 8 years of experience, master's degree with 6 years of experience, Ph.D. with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
U.S. Citizenship is required
Familiarity with electronic circuit schematics and component failure modes/mechanisms
Demonstrated clear and effective verbal and written communication skills to be able to interact with team members, peers and leadership within NGMS and the customer community
The ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Ability to work full-time onsite at the Linthicum, MD NGMS facility

Electrical engineering degree or equivalent industry years of experience
Hands-on experience in diagnosing complex issues in electronics devices due to electrical, thermal, mechanical, material, design and manufacturing defects
Experience with hands on electrical testing of electronic components and RF devices
Knowledge of failure mechanisms and accelerated life testing based on JEDEC, MIL and IPC standards
Experience using curve traces, power supplies, source meters, data-logging equipment
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees, management and customers
Ability to read circuit schematics and mechanical drawings
Innovative mindset with focus on problem solving and communicating complex technical issues with customers
