Architect

Responsibilities
Works with the university architect to recommend the services of private architectural, engineering, and consulting firms
Works with the university architect to review and make recommendations regarding project budgets, cost estimates, and fee proposals of private firms
Monitors the production of construction documents to include blueprints and specifications
Monitors the construction of projects to assure that materials, methods, and workmanship comply with contract documents in coordination with IU contracted owner representatives and in-house construction management advisors
Serves as liaison between the Capital Projects, contract architects, university officials, and user groups relative to the construction and renovation of university facilities
Assists other staff architects with code review for state, local, and ADA code compliance
Coordinates the development of new construction and renovation projects
Recommends the services of private architectural, engineering, and consulting firms
Reviews and makes recommendations regarding project budgets, cost estimates, and fee proposals of private firms
Monitors the production of construction documents to include blueprints and specifications
Monitors the construction of projects to assure that materials, methods, and workmanship comply with contract documents
Assigns projects, establishes priorities and schedules for all projects on assigned campus
Establishes communication methods and monitors to ensure that projects are progressing on schedule and there is good communication with departments
Provides professional guidance to all faculty and staff on assigned campus requiring architectural design
Consults with clients to determine needs and provide architectural guidance
Serves as liaison between the university architect's office, contract architects, university officials, and user groups relative to the construction and renovation of university facilities
Designs and monitors the development of contract documents and architectural standards
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Architecture
8 years practicing architect, preferably in design construction/renovation fields, including management experience required
Licensed Architect within the State of Indiana Upon Date of Hire
Demonstrated experience and advanced skills in project management/project communication
Demonstrated experience and advanced skills in architectural design and design critique
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrated experience in architectural contract document preparation and detailing and cost estimating
Experience with AutoCAD and REVIT
Demonstrated ability to work with and manage a varied workforce
This role requires both sedentary work and the ability to move about, sometimes quickly, for long periods of time
It requires moving heavy objects, providing support for heavy objects, and performing strenuous labor under adverse field conditions
The ability to use tools, operate machinery, and to complete construction projects with precision and accuracy is required
The person in this role must be able to perform the essential tasks with or without an accommodation

Master's degree in Architecture
