Responsibilities
Develop, train, and evaluate machine learning models (e.g., regression, classification, time-series, and deep learning where appropriate) to analyze soil, plant, and ecosystem datasets
Process, clean, integrate, and manage large, heterogeneous datasets from field measurements, laboratory experiments, and public environmental databases
Apply AI/ML methods to predict soil carbon and nutrient dynamics, soil health indicators, and greenhouse gas fluxes
Implement workflows in Python and/or R for reproducible data analysis, model development, and visualization
Perform feature engineering, model validation, uncertainty analysis, and performance benchmarking
Integrate machine learning outputs with process-based or ecosystem models to support biogeochemical research
Create clear visualizations, summaries, and documentation of model results for publications, reports, and presentations
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to translate ecological research questions into computational and AI-driven solutions
Maintain well-documented code using version control (e.g., Git) and follow best practices for reproducible research
Qualification
Required
4 year degree; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience
Strong proficiency in Python or R for scientific computing and data analysis
Experience with version control, data visualization, and statistical modeling
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team
Preferred
MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering/Computer Science or 2 years of experience after BS in Computer Science
Fluency with ML/AI tools
