Lead Field Support Technician

Gila River Telecommunications, Inc. is seeking a Lead Field Support Technician to maintain safety, quality, and efficiency in field operations. Responsibilities

Lead and mentor Field Support Technicians in daily operations, ensuring high-quality workmanship, safety compliance, and timely completion of assignments
Provide technical expertise and hands-on training on locating methods, safety protocols, and proper equipment use
Oversee compliance with AZ811 regulations and GRTI damage prevention procedures
Coordinate and monitor daily workloads, verifying progress and completion of bluestake tickets, service orders, and trouble tickets
Conduct and verify field pre-assessments for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) installations to ensure site readiness, accuracy, and adherence to specifications
Review and maintain accurate documentation for bluestake tickets, service orders, and trouble tickets, ensuring clear and complete notations
Lead and assist in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing copper and fiber network issues, ensuring timely and accurate resolution
Ensure all installation and repair activities follow Calix and industry best practices to maintain network performance and consistency
Perform jobsite quality checklists to confirm compliance with company standards, workmanship expectations, and safety requirements
Maintain, splice, and test copper cables and fiber pigtails; perform pair identification, tagging, and documentation updates as needed
Serve as a point of escalation for customer inquiries or issues, providing professional communication and effective resolutions
Collaborate with Field Services Management to identify workflow challenges, recommend process improvements, and support continuous operational enhancements
Promote a positive and seamless customer experience through professionalism, service accuracy, and follow-up communication
Assist with department reporting, including daily summaries, weekly updates, material usage, and performance metrics
Participate in ongoing professional development to stay current on emerging technologies, tools, and industry best practices
Ensure understanding and consistent application of the GRTI Employee Handbook, department policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required

High school diploma or GED required
5+ years of experience in Outside Plant, Central Office, and/or Field Services environments
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as required
Comprehensive understanding of damage prevention laws, AZ811 regulations, and safe excavation practices
Ability to work in confined spaces, such as a manholes, crawl spaces, and attics
Capability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
Strong understanding of advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repair techniques
Proficiency in reading blueprints, floor plans, and throw sheets
Willingness to work in various weather conditions
Skilled in the use of small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment
Physically able to bend, stoop, walk, stand, and climb tall ladders
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Must be able to use hands, to sit, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and work in confined workspaces
May be required to work on weekends or night shifts based on project deadlines
Field-based role with exposure to various weather conditions
Requires the ability to speak, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties of the job
Must communicate clearly in English
Must be able to perform and complete multiple tasks
Will be asked to provide 39 months driving record
Position requires insurability under GRTI insurer requirements
Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

Preferred

Associate, bachelor's or technical degree preferred
1-2 years of experience serving in a lead or mentoring capacity preferred
OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is preferred
Fiber Optic Technician Certification (e.g., ETA, FOA, BICSI) preferred
First Aid/CPR Certification is preferred
