Lead Field Services Technician

Responsibilities

Perform advanced installations, disconnections, reconnections, and service modifications for residential and business customers across the Gila River Indian Community and surrounding areas
Lead and assist in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing copper and fiber network issues, ensuring timely and accurate resolution
Monitor and verify compliance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and installation standards
Conduct field pre-assessments for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) installations to confirm site readiness and project accuracy
Ensure all installation and repair activities follow Calix and industry best practices to maintain network performance and consistency
Complete quality assurance checklists for assigned projects to confirm compliance with company standards, safety practices, and workmanship requirements
Deliver exceptional customer experiences through professional communication, proper service execution, and post-installation verification
Provide on-the-job training, guidance, and technical support to Field Service Technicians to enhance skill development and performance consistency
Coordinate and prioritize daily work assignments in collaboration with the Field Services Manager to align with departmental goals and customer needs
Support Field Services Management by monitoring workflow progress, identifying delays, and recommending process or efficiency improvements
Maintain, splice, and test copper cables and fiber pigtails; perform pair identification, tagging, and documentation updates as needed
Ensure accurate documentation and notations on service orders, trouble tickets, and related work reports
Act as a point of escalation for customer concerns, providing timely and professional communication to resolve issues
Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked company vehicle; ensure tools and test equipment are in proper working condition
Participate in professional development opportunities and stay informed on emerging technologies, tools, and best practices
Assist with departmental reporting needs, including daily work summaries, material tracking, and performance metrics
Model professional behavior and adherence to the GRTI Employee Handbook, safety requirements, and departmental policies
Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required

High school diploma or GED required; associate, bachelor's or technical degree preferred
5+ years of experience in Outside Plant, Central Office, and/or Field Services environments
1-2 years of experience serving in a lead or mentoring capacity preferred
Ability to work in confined spaces, such as a manholes, crawl spaces, and attics
Capability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision
Strong understanding of advanced installation, troubleshooting, and repair techniques
Proficiency in reading blueprints, floor plans, and throw sheets
Willingness to work in various weather conditions
Skilled in the use of small hand tools, power tools, and test equipment
Physically able to bend, stoop, walk, stand, and climb tall ladders
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to job sites as required
Must be able to use hands, to sit, lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and work in confined workspaces
May be required to work on weekends or night shifts based on project deadlines
Field-based role with exposure to various weather conditions
Requires the ability to speak, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties of the job. Must communicate clearly in English
Must be able to perform and complete multiple tasks
Will be asked to provide 39 months driving record. Position requires insurability under GRTI insurer requirements
Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check

Preferred

Associate, bachelor's or technical degree preferred
1-2 years of experience serving in a lead or mentoring capacity preferred
OSHA 10 or 30 Certification is preferred
Fiber Optic Technician Certification (e.g., ETA, FOA, BICSI) preferred
First Aid/CPR Certification is preferred
