Northeast School Health Advocate (SHA) (DOH/PHD/OSAH #11518)
The New Mexico Department of Health is dedicated to ensuring health equity and improving health outcomes for all people in New Mexico. The Northeast School Health Advocate (SHA) promotes student and community health and wellness by supporting access to quality health care and the delivery of school health services in the Northeast Region, collaborating with various partners to address critical health issues affecting children and adolescents.

Responsibilities
Promotes student and school community access to quality health care and supports the delivery of school health services delivery in the Northeast Region
Connects with Department of Health resources to strengthen regional and local infrastructure, with an emphasis on school health
Coordinates work with the Office of School and Adolescent Health, School Health Officer, Regional Health Officer, other SHA's, and Public Education Department on statewide school health initiatives by assessing, planning, developing and implementing statewide standards, policies, training, and resource materials related to school health
Works with schools and communities to support the development of school community partner capacity to address critical health issues affecting children and adolescents
Assists the NE Region with vaccine events and outreach such as back-to-school immunizations
Qualification
Required
Must possess a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico
Three (3) years of experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License
Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certification from the State of New Mexico, or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment
Successful completion of HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) trainings
Successful completion of CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) trainings
CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certified
Required to successfully complete blood-borne pathogen training
Preferred
Experience as a school nurse or working with teens or populations engaged in risky behavior
Experience with inter-agency initiatives and special projects at the community level
Skilled in nursing services for patients with chronic conditions, diseases, illnesses and/or disorders
Experience developing training courses, including course outlines and course objectives
Advanced verbal and written communication skills
Experience in collaborating with and leading healthcare professionals
