The N.C. Department of Adult Correction is responsible for the care and supervision of adults in the correctional system. They are seeking a Correctional Housing Unit Manager II to oversee the management of a correctional housing unit, providing leadership to staff and ensuring compliance with regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

Assuming responsibility for the overall management of the correctional housing unit
Providing leadership and guidance to subordinate staff and ensuring staff are alert, properly trained, informed and prepared to perform their job responsibilities under a variety of conditions
Coordinating work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy
Managing a facility on occasion of being the highest-ranking custody staff on the premises or the Officer-in-Charge (OIC)
Ensuring that staff are fully trained and that proper conduct, actions, and procedures are being followed
Maintaining facility security through regular inspections to ensure compliance with governing regulations and standards relating to facility maintenance, health, and safety of offenders
Communicating effective instruction/direction during drills, searches, and in emergencies situations
Responding to emergency situations such as; distress codes, escapes, and transportation of offenders
Conducting and/or supervise searches of offenders, offender living areas and work areas for contraband
Investigating and acting when appropriate regarding security issues, incidents, disputes, and complaints
Preparing, reviewing reports and completing performance evaluations on subordinate staff
Serving on a variety of institutional committees as needed

Required

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
Five years of correctional experience, two of which must have been at the supervisory level
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission

Preferred

Documented report writing skills
Documented knowledge of supportive counseling techniques and/or interviewing techniques for intake assessments
Documented knowledge of Prisons' Policy and Procedures and/or Facility Operations
