Specialist Engineer, Product Safety
Virgin Galactic is an aerospace and space travel company, pioneering human spaceflight for private individuals and researchers with its advanced air and space vehicles. They are seeking a Specialist Engineer/Analyst to develop Product Safety artifacts, conduct safety analyses, and lead risk identification and mitigation efforts in the design and assembly processes.

Responsibilities
Work with project engineering to develop Product Safety artifacts for new and existing designs
Plan, execute, and report progress on safety analyses for systems and components
Drive Safety Integration at all levels of Program and Engineering staff on design, integration and test matters and support other teams as needed
Lead the risk identification and mitigation assessment input to production, maintenance, technical, project or program personnel
Work collaboratively to achieve goals and/or complete assigned tasks
Areas of expertise should include one or more of the following key areas:
System Safety Analysis (SSA)
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA)
Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Risk identification, prioritization, and management
Flight Safety Analysis (FSA)
Trajectory Analysis
Debris Analysis
Probability of Failure Analysis
Population Exposure Analysis
Flight Hazard Area Analysis
Qualification
Required
Requires a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in aerospace or similar field with a bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline, Mathematics or Physics from an accredited university; or 8 years and a master's degree
Knowledge of Systems Engineering development lifecycles
Knowledge of software development practices and design assurance methods such as DO-178 or ARP4754 preferred
Knowledge of electronic hardware design assurance methods such as DO-254 preferred
Experience with Built-In-Test and its application to product safety preferred
Knowledge of FAA commercial space regulations preferred, CFR 450
Detailed knowledge of the inputs and outputs of the various product safety analysis techniques
Experience with the system safety methods of ARP4761 or MIL-STD-882, with emphasis on hazard mitigation processes
Experience with Human Factors and its application to product safety
Must have experience with a fault tree modeling software
Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, to include schematics, wiring diagrams and assembly drawings
Preferred
Strong statistical analysis skills preferred
Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and written communication skills
Team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision, adaptable to changing environments, and able to handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously
