Permit Specialist I

Responsibilities
Issues both manually and by computer approved building, electrical, heating and air conditioning, gas, plumbing, mobile home, building relocation, fireplace/stove, demolition, approved graphics, temporary structure, and pool permits
Prepares and inputs inspection requests into the computer
Calculates permit fees; collects monies and issues permit receipts
Coordinates inspection consultations, inquiries and results between inspectors and contractors, homeowners and/or the general public
Assists in scheduling inspections with contractors and/or homeowners
Provides information to contractors and/or homeowners concerning permit and inspection requirements
Prepares correspondence and invoices as needed
Compiles information in response to open records requests
Establishes and maintains all permit files and plans for each structure through all phases of construction pertaining to building permits
Responds to telephone and walk-in inquiries related to permits, applications, plans review, and other matters
Informs the respective utility companies of approval for gas and electrical meter installation
Prepares monthly reports for inter-departmental, Census Bureau, and public information
Maintains archive files for all building permits issued
Prepares and balances monies and receipts for deposit
Maintains logs for utility connections
Maintains and archives files for graphics, demolition, manufactured home, temporary structure, secured structure, and fireplace/stove permits, and sub-trade permits not requiring a building permit
Collects fees for water/sewer applications; prepares and balances receipts for deposit; processes refunds to water and sewer applicants
Calculates fees required for the installation or construction of water stubs, water meters, sewer stubs, fire hydrant meters, paving cuts and engineering fees for DOT street crossings and impact fees
Maintains and disseminates information concerning water and sewer service applications
Performs other related duties as required
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of clerical, secretarial or related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position
Regular and predictable attendance is required
Must work cooperatively with others
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC's safe driving policy
Preferred
Vocational/Technical diploma in General Business or Secretarial Science preferred
