Wheatland Electric Cooperative, Inc. is a member owned electrical distribution cooperative dedicated to 'Delivering Energy for Life' to our communities in western and central Kansas. They are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll and Benefits Specialist to ensure accurate payroll processing and effective administration of employee benefits while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities

Accurately process payroll for all employees, ensuring timeliness and precision in every pay cycle
Administer a variety of employee benefit programs, including health, dental, vision, retirement plans, and other company offerings
Maintain current and confidential payroll and benefits records, safeguarding sensitive information at all times
Interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and benefits regulations, keeping the organization up to date with all legal requirements
Respond promptly and professionally to employee inquiries regarding payroll and benefits, providing clear and helpful information
Collaborate closely with HR and Accounting teams to ensure smooth operations, accurate reporting, and a seamless employee experience
Assist with audits and prepare detailed reports related to payroll and benefits as needed to support internal and external requirements

Required

An associate degree in business or accounting with at least 2 years of payroll and/or benefits experience; or a minimum of 4 years of payroll and/or benefits experience is required
Comprehensive understanding of payroll and benefit regulations, as well as compliance requirements at the federal, state, and local levels
Excellent organizational and time management skills, enabling efficient handling of multiple tasks and deadlines
Keen attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all aspects of work
Ability to interpret and understand complex policies and regulations, applying them effectively in daily operations
Proficiency with payroll and HRIS systems, along with strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and Outlook
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, facilitating effective collaboration and support for employees and colleagues
Ability to pass a background check, credit check, and pre-employment drug screen

Preferred

Certification: Payroll.Org Fundamentals of Payroll Certification and a benefits certification are preferred, or the ability to obtain these certifications within a designated timeframe
