Assistant Grocery Manager

Tom Thumb Supermarket is seeking an Assistant Grocery Manager to oversee store operations in the absence of the Store Director. The role involves maintaining customer service, managing inventory, and supervising department employees to ensure operational efficiency and profitability.

Maintain an enthusiastic, customer‑focused atmosphere with fast and friendly service
Assist customers by offering product suggestions
Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, intercom announcements, and direct customer interaction
Answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer complaints and escalate to the Store Director when necessary
Oversee total store operations in the absence of the Store Director
Plan daily operations and monitor production processes in alignment with company procedures and profitability goals
Ensure department standards and requirements are consistently met
Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance
Schedule employees to maintain adequate coverage and service levels
Maintain working knowledge of all department duties, including Opening/Closing, Dairy, and Frozen
Supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
Train employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements
Identify and develop employees with potential for advancement
Apply company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
Initiate personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary measures
Build grocery displays; rotate stock and remove outdated or spoiled products
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area and department
Implement promotional and seasonal displays; coordinate grocery sales promotions
Ensure merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are clean and well‑maintained
Enforce proper code‑dating procedures for all products
Control shrink and manage costs effectively
Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every six months
Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness
Maintain inventory levels according to division directives; stock and rotate product
Order grocery products and maintain proper back‑room organization and in‑stock conditions
Supervise reclamation processing
