Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of field engineers across both PLC and SCADA disciplines supporting deployment and commissioning activities
Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and create professional development plans for team members
Recruit, hire, and onboard new field engineering talent for both PLC and SCADA specializations to support organizational growth
Foster a collaborative, safety-focused culture that prioritizes customer satisfaction and operational excellence
Establish clear expectations, goals, and accountability measures for field team performance
Balance workload and development opportunities across PLC and SCADA field engineering groups
Coordinate field engineering resources across both PLC and SCADA teams for multiple concurrent data center projects and client sites
Develop project schedules, deployment plans, and resource allocation strategies to meet client commitments
Monitor project progress, budget utilization, and milestone completion for field activities
Identify and mitigate risks related to field deployment, commissioning delays, and resource constraints
Coordinate with internal development teams, project managers, and external contractors to ensure seamless project execution
Balance staffing levels and skill sets across PLC and SCADA disciplines to optimize team utilization
Provide leadership and oversight for both PLC and SCADA field engineering activities
Serve as escalation point for field teams, coordinating with technical subject matter experts to resolve complex issues
Establish and enforce quality standards, commissioning procedures, and documentation requirements across both disciplines
Review and approve commissioning plans, test procedures, and turnover packages
Drive continuous improvement initiatives based on field feedback and lessons learned
Maintain working knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems to effectively lead teams and understand technical challenges
Partner with technical leads and senior engineers to address specialized technical issues
Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders
Participate in client meetings, project kickoffs, and design reviews to represent field engineering capabilities
Address client concerns, manage expectations, and ensure high levels of customer satisfaction
Travel to client sites (20-30%) to support critical activities, conduct quality reviews, and strengthen relationships
Collaborate with sales and business development teams to support proposals and scoping activities
Represent field engineering in internal strategy and planning discussions
Develop and implement standard operating procedures, best practices, and training programs for field operations
Track and report key performance metrics including project completion rates, quality scores, and customer satisfaction
Manage field engineering budget, travel expenses, and resource costs
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and client requirements
Implement tools and processes to improve field team efficiency and communication
Qualification
Required
7+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or related field with significant exposure to both PLC and SCADA systems
3+ years of direct people management experience leading technical teams, preferably in field operations or professional services
Working knowledge of PLC systems (Rockwell/Allen-Bradley preferred) and SCADA systems (Ignition preferred) sufficient to understand team challenges and guide decision-making
Proven experience managing multiple concurrent projects and coordinating distributed field resources
Strong understanding of commissioning processes, field deployment operations, and turnover procedures for mission-critical facilities
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with ability to influence and motivate teams
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, resolve conflicts, and make sound operational decisions
Experience working directly with clients in professional services or engineering consulting environments
Willingness and ability to travel 20-30% to support field teams and client engagements
Valid driver's license and ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
Experience managing teams across multiple technical disciplines
Experience in data center, hyperscale, or mission-critical facility environments
PMP or other relevant management certifications
Experience with budget management and P&L responsibility
Background in field engineering, commissioning, or deployment roles
Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies
Experience with remote team management and virtual collaboration tools
Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and field safety management
