Responsibilities
Performs a full range of finance assistant tasks in a central department or office
May work in mainframe and PC-based financial systems and applications
Classifies and verifies a variety of financial documents processed in the assigned office to ensure correctness and completeness of the information and prepares control sheets, as required
Balances and reconciles accounts, may transcribe to the general ledger, and traces discrepancies in case of imbalance
Participates in the preparation of financial statements, some of which may require development or securing of supportive documentation
May work with schools, banks, outside vendors, employees, and community organizations
Compiles financial data, as requested or required
Utilizes computer and related equipment to carry out responsibilities
Performs related duties as required or assigned
Qualification
Required
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) certificate, supplemented by coursework in finance or accounting
Two (2) years of experience in office and accounting, some at a level requiring independent judgment
Knowledge of general, paraprofessional accounting practices, business English, and modern office practices
Ability to reconcile financial accounting data and to spot and correct arithmetic or posting errors
Ability to operate a computer and related equipment to process, develop, analyze, and create data
Preferred
Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience
