Director of Purchasing

Master Boat Builders, Inc. is seeking a Director of Purchasing to lead and execute the purchasing and supply chain strategy for their shipyard operations. This role involves overseeing procurement activities, vendor relationships, and ensuring timely acquisition of materials and services while maintaining compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Actively lead and mentor the Purchasing team, setting expectations and supporting day-to-day execution
Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure timely procurement and delivery of materials and equipment in support of production schedules. Enhance and optimize scalable procurement processes and controls to support the needs of a growing shipyard
Maintain purchasing discipline and documentation to ensure accuracy, traceability, and compliance
Establish accountability and follow-through, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and on time
Oversee sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of materials, equipment, subcontracted services, and consumables
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
Negotiate pricing, terms, delivery schedules, and long-term supply agreements to optimize cost and performance
Ensure timely availability of materials to support vessel construction Manager purchase order workflows and work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate invoice matching and reconciliation
Work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Project Management to forecast material needs and resolve supply issues
Address procurement-related delays, shortages, or quality issues and implement corrective actions
Balance speed and accuracy, ensuring materials arrive when needed without sacrificing correctness
Ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, maritime industry standards, and applicable regulations
Support safety, quality, and environmental initiatives through responsible sourcing practices

Required

Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
4+ years of progressive purchasing or supply chain experience, preferably in shipbuilding, ship repair, marine, heavy manufacturing, or industrial environments
2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience
Strong negotiation, vendor management, and contract management skills
Proficiency with ERP systems and purchasing software

Preferred

Experience in a shipyard or maritime environment
Knowledge of marine materials, equipment, and regulatory requirements
