Senior Governance Specialist

SoTalent is a mission-driven professional membership organization, and they are seeking a Senior Governance Specialist to support the effective management and execution of governance operations. This role involves coordinating governance meetings, managing committee structures, overseeing elections, and enhancing stakeholder engagement.

Staffing & Recruiting

Responsibilities

Coordinate all aspects of governance meetings and calls, including scheduling, agendas, materials, minutes, reports, and follow-ups
Support effective communication between staff, committees, councils, and the board
Manage committee structures, rosters, terms, and leadership appointments
Facilitate semi-annual calls for committee volunteers and maintain volunteer waitlists
Support maintenance of bylaws, governance policies, procedures, and guiding principles
Manage annual nomination and election processes for governance roles
Coordinate nomination reviews, candidate materials, ballots, and election communications
Support new leader onboarding and orientation programs
Maintain and update governance documents and online communities
Partner with communications teams to deliver consistent governance-related updates via email, web, and digital channels
Serve as a key liaison with volunteer leaders, board members, councils, and committees
Track volunteer participation and engagement in the membership database
Review, code, and track leadership expense reimbursements
Support department budget development and monitoring
Prepare budget reports and ensure responsible use of funds
Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables
Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality
Order leadership recognition items and gifts
Attend in-person meetings as requested
Perform other duties as assigned to support governance and organizational priorities

Required

Bachelor's degree
4+ years of experience supporting nonprofit governance bodies (e.g., boards, councils, committees)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with high attention to detail
Excellent organizational, project management, and prioritization abilities
Proven discretion handling confidential and politically sensitive information
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Strong customer service mindset

Preferred

Experience serving as a primary staff liaison to boards or volunteer leadership
Experience within a professional membership association or nonprofit organization
