ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL)
NAVWAR is seeking an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) to serve in the Engineering and Planning Department. The role involves developing technical documents, performing analyses for design improvements, and conducting functional checks on ship systems.

Responsibilities
You will develop technical work documents, quality assurance forms and write correspondence such as Letters and LARs
You will perform analysis and special studies for the purpose of developing or evaluating improvements in design, maintenance procedures or materials for assigned systems
You will perform functional checkout, grooming, adjustment and test of new or modernized ship systems in an operational evaluation environment
You will evaluate ship repair/overhaul or test and grooming problems to diagnose and correct deficiencies
Qualification
Required
Must be a US Citizen
Must be determined suitable for federal employment
Must participate in the direct deposit pay program
New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check
Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level
Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326
Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
This is a bargaining unit position
You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector
Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing technical engineering services involving the maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of mechanical systems on weight handling equipment, material handling and rigging equipment used to support shipyard operations
This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements
This position requires being willing and able to climb ladders and scaffolding
This position requires onboard ship work
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments
