Engineering Specialist- Vacuum Interrupters

Eaton’s Power Components Division is seeking an Engineering Specialist- Vacuum Interrupters to support their vacuum interrupter business and its customers. The role involves driving technology innovation, supporting manufacturing and product development, and collaborating globally to advance vacuum interruption technology.

Responsibilities

Establish yourself as a subject matter expert in vacuum interruption technology through ongoing R&D work and practical application
Lead the development of new vacuum interrupter products by leveraging Voice of Customer (VOC) insights
Drive innovation and contribute to the creation of value‑added intellectual property
Maintain awareness of emerging technologies in the field and attend industry conferences to support technical visibility of the Vacuum Interrupter Product Line
Become familiar with relevant IEEE and IEC standards and participate in IEEE Switchgear Committee activities
Develop a deep understanding of the Vacuum Interrupter manufacturing process to:
Contribute to plant cost‑out initiatives
Support manufacturing troubleshooting and new process development
Develop an understanding of customer products and applications to provide timely support for quality‑hold resolutions and failure analyses
Understand key VI components and characteristics to support new materials or alternate source development for Supply Chain teams
Prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural, and globally distributed teams across the Power Components Division to achieve project goals
Partner with teams from Eaton Research Labs, the Electrical Sector Center of Excellence, and external technology resources—including national labs and universities—to support technology and product innovation

Required

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution
Minimum of 7 years of engineering experience in designing, developing and testing vacuum arc and/or vacuum interrupter technologies

Preferred

Master's degree/PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics from an accredited institution
Research experience in vacuum arc and/or MV breaker/switchgear related product development, manufacturing and testing
Hands-on experience in developing and testing vacuum interrupter/breakers and MV switchgear
Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members
